HDCRA fosters dozens of cats that need human companionship and a safe and loving home. Precious few endeavors in life are as rewarding as saving an animal’s life, and the love you receive in return will repay your efforts in spades. You can meet our cats at our Saturday adoption clinics at PetSmart at 10248 Coors Bypass NW just north of Cottonwood Mall.
Adopting a cat is a lifelong undertaking. Your cat will rely on you for love, care, shelter, and medical attention for the rest of his or her life, so it is important that you find a cat that will be a good fit for you and your home. Our application process is designed to ensure that the cat is a good fit for your home and vice versa.
Special note about adopting kittens:
The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 17 years, but a well-cared-for cat can live well into his or her twenties, so adopting a kitten is an especially long-term commitment. Your kitten will rely on you for a loving home, care and medical attention for the rest of its life.
When Cats Are Ready for Adoption
No cats or kittens are available for adoption until they have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and are up to date on their shots. Cats needing medical care for injuries or illness when they come to us are treated first and offered for adoption only when one of our veterinarians agrees they are ready.
Note: HDCRA reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone.
To adopt a cat from HDCRA, you will go through this process:
- Discuss your desires with an adoption counselor, who will tell you about cats or kittens that will most likely be a fit.
- Fill out an
adoption application designed to find out about yourself and your home environment, to ensure that the cat/kitten you want to adopt is the right one. - Receive approval to adopt from HDCRA.
- Spend time getting acquainted with the cat(s) you wish to adopt.
- Sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. You will be given a copy of the cat's medical records, including rabies tag (except for a kitten that is too young to get the rabies vaccine).
